The Art of Yasemen Hussein

With work that simultaneously echoes the spires of Gothic cathedrals, the spectacle of a modern pop star, and the sublimity of a Baroque painting, Yasemen Hussein is to sculpture what Massive Attack is to music; that is to say, a black hole of influences and concepts that resonate from all over the board – both Classical and contemporary – remixed into an aesthetic all her own. She uses the most callous materials to create forms completely antithetical to the material itself, fabricating the most delicate of textures found in her hair-pieces and feathers in a way that is organic and almost lyrical.
